Gynaecology Teaching Associates
- Gynaecology Teaching Associates (GTAs) teach gynaecology examinations from a patient perspective
- speculum examination
- bimanual examination
- swab-taking for STIs
- diaphragm fitting
- GTAs are laywomen who have been extensively trained to teach a wide variety of healthcare professionals these skills and give the student a unique learning opportunity as they promote the patient perspective on examinations and teach on their own bodies.
- We teach:
- undergraduate medical students
- qualified nurses and doctors undertaking contraception training or developing competency in bimanual examinations
- FY1 and FY2 doctors in gynaecology and sexual health jobs
- Physician Associates (PAs)
- We tailor our teaching sessions to suit your specific needs and requirements. We have also been professional patients for trans-vaginal ultrasound courses and as models for OSCEs. Please get in touch if you would like to organise a GTA session or would like to use GTAs in a professional patient capacity.
- In 2003 a study in the British Medical Journal concluded that ‘Laywomen can be trained to teach pelvic examination to medical students in the United Kingdom.
